Spannungsfelder III (Areas of Conflict)

»Recht und Gerechtigkeit« (Justice and Fairness)
Performed on 27 April 2023 at the Concert Hall Frankfurt (Oder)
“The man asked: Who are you? – I am Death, who makes all men equal. Then the man said: You are the right one, you take the rich and the poor without distinction, you shall be my son’s godfather …
From Godfather Death, a fairy tale by the Brothers Grimm
Is it fair when a child dies, but an elderly person is allowed to live for a long time? Is it fair when someone who has money can buy health, and those who are poor must die earlier? Is death, which supposedly makes everyone equal, truly fair? Is there a difference between JUSTICE and FAIRNESS? Is it even worth thinking about these things? Especially when you are young?
We think so: Yes, it is always worth thinking about the finiteness of life. Not only when life is coming to an end – but also now and today. To realise how precious every day is.
It is worth talking about the subject of fairness. Is there such a thing as absolute fairness? And where or from whom does it come? And who adheres to it? Or does everyone have their own definition of fairness?
We explored these exciting questions together with pupils from Frankfurt (Oder) and Słubice. This led to very exciting discussions and a multimedia performance with music, dance, drama and shadow puppetry.
