(Lies and Truth)

Performed on 27 and 28 September
in the atrium of Frankfurt City Hall

We live in times when the most powerful politicians blatantly distort the truth and declare lies to be ‘alternative facts’, when uncomfortable facts are reinterpreted as ‘fake news’ on social media, and when it is becoming increasingly difficult to distinguish between lies and truth. It would be nice if there were an absolute truth to hold on to.

Rock star Jimmy Hendrix believed he had found this truth in music and said: “Music doesn’t lie.” We explored whether he was right with students from Frankfurt’s Karl Liebknecht Gymnasium and the Lyceum Słubice, using music by Shostakovich, Massenet, Mozart and others.

This Education Project also featured the world première of a work by the young English composer Alexander Papp.
