  • Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart: Symphony No. 29 A major KV 201
  • Johann Matthias Sperger: Double Bass Concerto No. 8 D major
  • Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart: Serenade No. 9 in D major, KV 320 D-Dur KV 320 „Posthorn“-Serenade
  • Mikyung Sung, Double bass
  • Martin Haselböck, conductor

We immerse ourselves in the time of Mozart and offer two of his works and one by his contemporary Johann Matthias Sperger. Sperger was the most innovative double bass player of his time. This is evidenced by his 18 virtuoso double bass concertos. With the eighth, he gave the audience a great listening pleasure and the soloist a work with breakneck difficulties. We have invited a double bassist who equals Sperger. With her virtuoso performances, her temperament and her outstanding playing technique, Mikyung Sung elicits completely new facets from her instrument and thrills audiences and press alike at her concerts all over the world.

We frame this double bass concerto with two of Mozart’s cheerful and finely crafted creations: his Symphony No. 29 and his magnificent Posthorn Serenade. In the latter, Mozart reveals himself to be a particularly sophisticated composer.

We are placing this concert in the hands of an expert on the Mozart era. Martin Haselböck has set new standards in terms of original sound with the orchestra he founded, the Wiener Akademie. He and his ensemble are highly regarded internationally and regularly perform at the most prestigious festivals and in the world’s most important concert halls.
