We are continuing our rewarding collaboration with the Berlin Cathedral Choir with the oratorio Elijah, one of Felix Mendelssohn’s most important works. With vehemence, classical rigour and romantic colouring,

Mendelssohn helped oratorio music to flourish once again with this work. He spent ten years developing the material because he was deeply fascinated and impressed by the figure of the prophet Elijah. He wrote that Elijah was a prophet “such as we might need today, strongly zealous, even evil and angry and gloomy, in contrast to the court rabble and rabble of the people, and in contrast to almost the entire world, and yet borne aloft as if on angel wings”.
