6. Classical Music on Sunday

Radek Baborák returns to Frankfurt (Oder) in the dual role of conductor and soloist. During the 2023/24 season, we regularly welcomed this top-class horn player as our »Artist in Residence«. Radek Baborák has performed with the most established orchestras worldwide. He has also worked with renowned conductors such as Daniel Barenboim, Sir Simon Rattle, Neeme Järvi, James Levine and Vladimir Askhenazy. His concerts have been broadcast by Europe’s largest television and radio stations. He has also achieved worldwide recognition with dozens of CD recordings (including for EMI) and the opening concert of the Nagano 1998 Olympic Games.

The winner of the ARD Music Competition, the UNESCO Grand Prix and the Grammy Award Classic became principal horn player of the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra at the age of 18. He held the same position with the Munich Philharmonic and the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra. From 2003 to 2010, Baborák was principal horn player with the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra, where he also shone in his performances as a concert soloist.

In addition to his solo career, Radek Baborák has established himself as a conductor over many years – and, of course, here too his focus is on horn music.

In this »Classical Music on Sunday« concert, he will perform two exquisitely crafted horn concertos with the BSOF and our principal horn player Dominic Molnar. Both were composed in the 1780s and are among the favourite works of all horn soloists and French horn enthusiasts.
